April 2010 - New Enviroschools Regional Coordinator for Taranaki

 

Maakere Edwards is the new Enviroschools Regional Coordinator for Taranaki, taking over from Kama Burwell.
Maakere will be carrying on the great work that Kama has done over the last seven years.  Thanks Kama!

Maakere lives in Hawera and will be based there some of the time and at the Taranaki Environment Centre once a week.  Many will already know Maakere as she is also an Enviroschools facilitator. Welcome Maakere!

December 2009 - Funding downs and ups !

Mid year, the government cut all funding for Education for Sustainability, including funding to The Enviroschools Foundation.

In December, funding to The Enviroschools Foundation was re-instated by the government, through a partnership between Te Puni Kokiri and The Ministry for the Environment. What a ride !

Here in Taranaki, things looked "uncertain" for a while - but we are currently GOOD TO GO !

November 2009 - Regional Event at Inglewood High School

Primary and secondary school students from around Taranaki came together to share their successes and do an Eco-Make-Over at Inglewood High School.

 

August 2009 - Youth Jam !

Secondary school and Conservation Corps students from Taranaki, Whanganui, and Manawatu descended on Pohangina Valley for a 3 day YOUTH-TEACHING-YOUTH event. Young people shared their successes and challenges in creating a sustainable world, and took action on site to plant hundreds of trees.

November 2008 - 6 Taranaki schools receive Enviroschools Awards !

Matapu School, Waitoriki School, Kaimata School, Marco School, Opunake High School, and Tikorangi School all received a BRONZE Enviroschools Award. FABULOUS WORK !

July 2008 - New Enviroschools facilitator for Taranaki

Maakere Edwards joined the Enviroschools team and will be working with Kura Kaupapa Maori, secondary schools, and mainstream primary schools too. She is based in Hawera.
